Increasing in Confidence

George Grimsey, University Student, has joined The White Rose Academies Trust on his one year University Industrial Placement. George will be working closely with the Executive Principal and the Head of Communications and Projects, as a key member of the Central Trust team; read George's fifth blog below:

I cannot believe we are already at the beginning of February! It seems like yesterday when I wrote my last blog back in November, I cannot believe how fast my first seven months have flown by.

In my last blog I mentioned that I completed an Agile Project Management course and was currently revising ahead of the practitioner exam. Since my last blog I have completed this exam and I passed! I am very grateful for the opportunity to complete the course and gain this qualification.

Before the Christmas holidays we had a very useful apprentice catch up meeting with Sam Bradley. In this meeting Sam told us the process he went through to became an Academy Business Manager and he also provided an overview of his main day to day responsibilities which was very interesting.

"Attending these meetings has allowed me to meet so many colleagues from across the Trust and I am now way more confident than when I first started. I also find these meetings very interesting and I can see first-hand the positive impact they have!"

We also had the Trust Student Leadership Group Christmas Party before the Christmas holidays. This included a series of fun games for the students including musical chairs and pass the parcel, it was great to see the students enjoying themselves and opening their gifts.

Since Christmas, I have continued to work on establishing the WRAT Alumni. We are now at stage where we are inputting information to the webpage. This is great as it feels like progress is being made. There are only a few things still to add to the webpage, once this is done I will be contacting every student that has left the Trust since 2014 encouraging them to get involved.

I have also been gathering information and organising pictures for a new facilities Hire Booklet which we are working on. This booklet will be great for boosting academy reputation with their respective communities.

We have also recently had another TSLG meeting where we told the students what we will be doing during the London trip, it was great to see how excited they were.

Another amazing opportunity that I have been given during my placement is the chance to attend and co-ordinate a series of meetings including Quality of Education Group meetings, Staff Wellbeing Meetings, 2% Club Meetings, 2% GRT meetings, Student Culture Group meetings and Apprentice Catch up Meetings. Attending these meetings has allowed me to meet so many colleagues from across the Trust and I am now way more confident than when I first started. I also find these meetings very interesting and I can see first-hand the positive impact they have.

On top of this I am continuing to contact companies to find staff and alumni benefits we can offer, this is very enjoyable as I know a number of people will use and enjoy these benefits.
