On the job and off the job training
In his third blog, Tom writes about experiences from his Business Officer Apprenticeship, as a key member of the Admin team at Leeds East Academy:
It feels like time has flown and I have only just finished writing the last blog but here I am. So much has been done over these past few weeks; my work has included invigilating mock exams, writing letters and creating/utilising spreadsheets.
Using the spreadsheet I mentioned in my previous blog, I have been able to track and manage Family Lunch much more effectively. I have spoken with parents ensuring that we are providing the support necessary for a smooth payment process. I have found myself able to improvise more and use initiative to find ways to best overcome this.
"It is fair to say that I am grateful for all the training I am receiving on the job and out of the office. I am really enjoying my apprenticeship!"
I also have attended a few training sessions, which have helped me better understand documents, and answer phone calls more confidently. The FSM training session I attended taught me the correct way to send and request information. I was also given a booklet with supplies I can use to further my knowledge such as quizzes.
My goal of learning small amounts of my teams responsibilities is still a working process as I have had a lot of work to focus on however I have been able to understand a bit more about our online payment system and how people can get the necessary information they need to make the move from cash to credit.
It is fair to say that I am grateful for all the training I am receiving on the job and out of the office. I am really enjoying my apprenticeship!
