Gaining experience in a variety of areas

George Grimsey, University Student, has joined The White Rose Academies Trust on his one year University Industrial Placement. George will be working closely with the Executive Principal and the Head of Communications and Projects, as a key member of the Central Trust team; read George's second blog below:

I have now been working for The White Rose Academies Trust for three months and I cannot believe how fast my time here has gone. Working for the Trust has enabled me to gain experience in so many different areas of business which I am very grateful for. Working for the Trust has been very enjoyable due to the variety of tasks and the great people I work with every day.

Since my last blog the summer holidays have been and gone. The summer period was very interesting for me as I learned that preparation for the next school year is very important. My most enjoyable day over summer was GCSE Results Day because it was brilliant to see students celebrating their results. My tasks on the day involved taking pictures, gathering quotes and then organising social media posts.

September is almost over and it’s safe to say this month has been the busiest yet. Over the past few months, I have completed a number of tasks including distributing a large number of open evening flyers to local primary schools and sports clubs to attract as many students to our academies as possible. I have also helped prepare a number of meetings for the Executive Principal and other Senior Leaders. Having the opportunity to attend some of these meetings has been brilliant and the discussions are always very productive. I have recently been given the responsibility of organising our Chief Financial Officer’s calendar, which is another amazing opportunity that I did not expect to be doing on my placement.

I am now looking forward to starting my next project which will involve me helping to improve staff wellbeing at the Trust. We already have a number of exciting plans that I cannot wait to help implement.

I have also recently found out that I will spend a week in each Academy and at Leeds City College to gain experience in different fields of the education sector. This is another opportunity that I am looking forward to.

While I still have more to learn, I have already gained so much knowledge and I cannot wait to see what the next week holds!
