Alicia Manners
Alicia has worked in education for over 16 years! She originally was employed by Parklands Girls High School which transitioned to a coeducational school and then evolved into Leeds East Academy which is part of the White Rose Academies Trust.
In her early years of employment, Alicia supported the inclusion team as a Teaching Assistant specialising in Performing Arts and taught dance as an extra-curricular activity. Alicia took a keen interest into pastoral responsibilities and studied for a degree in 'Supporting Young People Families and Children' and then moved onto becoming a Year Manager. Over time Alicia took on additional responsibilities such as transition and attendance.
In the year 2017/2018 Alicia was employed as an Attendance Leader and transformed attendance from 93.9% to 94.5% at Leeds East Academy.
In 2018 Alicia joined the Senior Leadership team as Associate Assistant Principal and became Assistant Principal in 2019. During this time, Alicia built strong links with the community including the local councillors and individuals within Leeds City Council. Alicia led a team of young people known as the ‘Transformation Leaders’ who cleaned up their local shops, which was commended in the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Alicia was deployed at Leeds City Academy as a driving force to continue the improvement of student attendance in February 2020.
Since then, Alicia has joined the Central Trust Team as Assistant Principal. Alicia will work as part of the School Improvement Team and will drive the Trust’s ‘Curriculum X’ initiative; a project that targets a remote curriculum for the small, yet significant cohort of students with stubbornly low attendance, with the aim being to re-engage and secure improved outcomes in core subjects for these learners.
Alongside this, in a similar approach to the recent trust-wide reviews of safeguarding and remote learning, Alicia will facilitate a trust-wide self-review focusing on attendance.
