Prestigious honour for Leeds Based Academy Trust Executive Principal
The White Rose Academies Trust are extremely proud to announce that our Executive Principal, Mr Andrew Whitaker, has been awarded a prestigious 2018 Churchill Fellowship.
The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust (Patron: Her Majesty the Queen) was established by public subscription in 1965, on the death of Sir Winston, as a living memorial to benefit future generations of British people. The Trust funds selected British Citizens from all backgrounds and of all ages to travel overseas and bring back inspiration and examples of best practice for the benefit of others. Only 150 Fellowships are awarded each year, with circa 5000 Fellowships being awarded since 1965. A Fellowship is for life and must be used to benefit others in the UK.

Record Breaking League Tables for Leeds Based Trust
Following the release of the National League Tables for Secondary Schools, The White Rose Academies Trust is celebrating record-breaking progress across all of its schools, which comprise of Leeds East Academy, Leeds City Academy and Leeds West Academy.
Leeds East Academy is now in the top 25% of schools nationally for progress and is the most improved school in Yorkshire; the 4th most improved school in the country. With a Progress 8 score of -0.74 in 2015-16 to +0.26 in 2016-17, the Academy has achieved a remarkable +1.00 difference in progress scoring within one academic year.
Leeds City Academy secured its best ever GCSE results this year. It is now the 4th most improved school in Leeds with a progress difference of +0.50. From a Progress 8 score of -0.38 in 2015-16 to +0.14 in 2016-17, Leeds City Academy is radically changing the future prospects of every child.
Leeds West Academy – 2nd most improved school in the West of Leeds, with a Progress 8 score of -0.37 in 2015-16, has now increased to +0.01 in 2016-17, offering a difference of +0.38.

White Rose Academies Trust Service Level Agreement with Gorse Academies Trust
The White Rose Academies Trust are delighted to announce a strategic Trust Development Agreement with the Gorse Academies Trust. This agreement will provide high level leadership, subject improvement and operational support to both The White Rose Academies Trust and the current academies within the Trust; Leeds City Academy, Leeds East Academy and Leeds West Academy.
Andrew Whitaker, Executive Principal of The White Rose Academies Trust, stated: “All staff within the Trust are focused on delivering an outstanding level of education to all students who attend our academies. Whilst we recognise the improvements taking place every day in our academies, we are ambitious to accelerate and embed further improvements and we are confident that the expertise of the Gorse Academies Trust will play a central part in helping our Trust to provide an outstanding ‘world class’ education to all of our students.”

Appointment of Executive Principal
Andrew Whitaker appointed as the new Executive Principal of The White Rose Academies Trust. Following a period as Vice Principal at Greenacre Academy, Andrew was appointed as Headteacher of Todmorden High School and steered the school from an Ofsted rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ (2013) to ‘Good with Outstanding features’ (2015). Over the last three years he has led the school from the bottom 5% of schools nationally to the top 18% of schools.
“The Trust’s vision is to be an exceptional and responsive academy group providing life changing education, skills and experiences for individuals in our academies and in their communities. Following high levels of interest in the post we sought an outstanding leader with the ability to rapidly drive our school improvement agenda, delivering on the Trust’s fundamental commitment to further improve educational outcomes for our students. The Board looks forward to working with Andrew as he leads The White Rose Academies Trust through its next exciting phase of development.
