Prior to commencing his role as Principal at Leeds City Academy in March 2019, Richard worked as Vice Principal at Leeds West Academy, with responsibility for the improvement in the quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment across the school. Richard was delighted to have played such a significant role in establishing a range of innovative and highly impactful strategies that transformed teaching at LWA, leading to significant improvements in student engagement, progress and achievement.
Before he began to work within the White Rose Academies, Richard enjoyed a very successful period of 5 years working within the nationally acclaimed GORSE Academies Trust at The Farnley Academy and Ruth Gorse Academy, schools rated Outstanding by OFSTED. He originally joined The Farnley Academy as Director of Sport, quickly transforming the quality of teaching & leadership within this key area. Promoted to Assistant Principal, Richard oversaw the introduction and development of Student Centred Leadership across each Secondary Academy.
As Vice Principal at the Ruth Gorse Academy, now the largest Free School in the country, Richard made a significant contribution to the initial 2 years of the school, establishing Teaching and Learning, Continuous Professional Development and Professional Standards across the school. He then moved back to The Farnley Academy to assume a leading role in the creation of an exciting leadership development programme for both middle & senior leaders.
Richard feels immensely proud and privileged to have joined Leeds City Academy as Principal and he is incredibly excited to lead the continued transformation of the school towards becoming truly exceptional.
Away from school he enjoys nothing better than relaxing on holiday with his wife and three daughters. Richard also really enjoys watching a range of sports, training at the gym and has a real interest in films and TV dramas.
