Stuart Jolley

Chief Financial Officer


Stuart graduated from the University of York in 2002 with a Master’s degree in Chemistry. During the final year of his degree he was on industrial placement working in the Research and Development team at Hickson and Welch in Castleford.

Upon graduating, Stuart secured a graduate trainee position in the Finance department at Leeds City Council. This was a three-year programme with placements across all of the finance functions of the authority, combined with study for an accounting qualification. Stuart qualified as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant and he was admitted to membership of the Institute in 2006. Post qualification, Stuart held two roles within the Corporate Financial Management team including leading on the preparation of the revenue financial statements and finally managing the accounting for the authority’s fixed assets.

In 2009, Stuart joined the University of York as Senior Finance Manager, initially leading the team providing financial support to the Facilities Management directorate. During this time the financial management support provided to budget holders was transformed and significant enhancements were delivered in the financial performance of the areas supported. Stuart was the financial lead for many significant projects at the University including the construction of teaching and residential facilities at the Heslington East campus and the development of a range of new sports facilities.

In 2014 Stuart was promoted to one of the newly created Operations Manager roles at the University. As the Operations Manager for the Social Sciences Faculty, Stuart worked closely with the Dean to set up governance arrangements for the faculty and provided leadership to the support staff across the faculty. Stuart delivered a number of projects within the faculty to integrate a number of research units into academic departments. During this time he led on a range of initiatives to enhance a range of operational processes across the organisation including the development of a central timetabling service and the modernisation of the procure to pay process.

Outside of work, Stuart has two children at primary school, is the trustee of two local charities and needs to get back on his road bike!


Stuart joined the White Rose Academies Trust as Chief Financial Officer in January 2019.
