Emily Hare is working as our Trust Student Intern for the next year. Emily writes about experiences from her placement role of Project Officer; read Emily’s third blog below:
This is my third blog and it is fair to say I have done so much already. This week I have been helping with the process of preparing the Executive Principal’s Board Report. This involved collating and formatting various information from our three academies. I have found this an extremely interesting project as I have learnt a lot about the different roles across the Trust and also about what each Academy are working on currently in order to move further forward on their journeys to becoming rated Outstanding by Ofsted. I felt very honoured to be trusted with such a high-level task. One of the sections required for the report was about the Gender Pay Gap. I worked with the Trust Project Manager to produce this and, as I had studied Gender Pay Gap during my second year of University, I found this fascinating.
Another project I am currently working on is the Trust’s ‘End of Year Reflection Event’. This has involved me liaising with the venue, speaking to guests, planning a running order, ordering table décor and favours, organising a video and ordering awards/trophies.
I really enjoy being able to work on a variety of different tasks rather than focusing on the same job all day every day. Myself and the Trust Business Apprentice are very lucky to have been given full ownership of this event.
I am currently contacting different businesses to try and build on the already excellent staff benefits package which the Trust offers. We have launched a partnership with a company called Perkbox this week which is in addition to provide various health options/services via Nuffield Health, offering excellent CPD opportunities, an excellent pension scheme and much more. We are now looking to partner with other organisations who may be able to offer discounts on goods to our staff body which consists of almost 400 people.
The Executive Principal of the Trust puts together a Trust Student Leadership Group each year which consists of between 18 and 20 students from across the three academies. These students apply to join this group and if successful, throughout the year, they attend meetings with guest speakers from top businesses, charities and various inspirational organisations. The students are also taken on trips to places like Google Headquarters, the House of Commons, WE Day and more. The current TSLG will be attending an Awards ceremony on Monday which I have been very much involved in organising and we have also just chosen the TSLG for the next academic year too. This is exciting for all the chosen students who I accompanied to Slaters Menswear in Leeds this week to get them measured for grey suits which they will wear when representing the Trust on trips and visits.
I am currently carrying out research for a planned TSLG trip to London in March 2019 so that the new group of students can attend an event called ‘WE’ Day, this is an inspirational celebration of young people who are committed to making a difference in the world.
