Accountable to: Curriculum Leader for English   


 In October 2024 an Ofsted Inspection of Leeds West Academy stated it is a happy and inclusive school where the values of care, commitment and community create an atmosphere of strong relationships in which pupils thrive. They are attentive and responsive and collaborate well to support each other’s learning (Ofsted, 2024). 

 

We benefit from world-class facilities accommodated in a £30 million building, which opened in late 2011 with a large expansion in 2023. Staff and students at the academy benefit from a bright, modern, heavily resourced learning environment, which is highly flexible to meet the needs of the 21st century learner.   

 

Role:   

 

  • To strive to deliver a consistently good standard of English teaching. 


  • To ensure strong rates of progress for all students through the planning and preparation of high-quality English lessons which engage, motivate, and support learners. 

 

  • To take responsibility within English teaching, and in the execution of general duties, to support a strong climate for learning which results in positive, respectful attitudes from students. 

 

  • To assess, record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students within English. 

 

  • In consultation with the Curriculum Leader for English, contribute to the planning, design and production of good quality teaching materials and resources. 

 

  • To promote the development and acquisition of literacy skills, including reading, writing, and oracy, and ensure that all student feedback is timely and effective. 

 

  • To be a Form Tutor for a specified group of students, establishing the rapport necessary to support their personal development. 

 

  • To attend meetings, including parents’ evenings, and fulfil duties on rotas as specified in the Staff Handbook.
