Leeds West Academy is a school with a remarkable sense of community and a strong and safe culture, a place where staff and students can thrive. We were judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in May 2019 because teaching is strong, the support we provide for our students and staff is unrivalled and because our results have improved year-on-year since 2016. In 2020, our students secured the best results in the school’s history. In short, there is no better time to join Leeds West Academy, as a colleague, a leader or as a student.

Leeds West Academy is a fabulous place to work, accommodated in £30 million pound world-class facilities which opened in late 2011. As part of the White Rose Academies Trust (a member of the Luminate Education Group), we have a strong reputation of being a caring and supportive organisation. The academy also benefits from an exceptional in-house Trust CPD programme, driven by the latest in educational research, focused on the development of all professionals in the organisation at each career stage. Colleagues train with us, grow with us and progress with us.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and ambitious teacher of MFL, to lead the development and delivery of the MFL Curriculum by supporting our teaching professionals who are committed to ensuring all students continue to achieve beyond their potential. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to join an academy dedicated to improving outcomes, aspirations, and life chances of young people. We know that for students to aspire and be successful in all aspects of their lives, they need to be given meaningful and sustained opportunities to develop their cultural capital. We do this in many ways, for example, through our curriculum, extracurricular activities, trips and visits and careers activities.

Role:

As part of a team of subject leads, the Curriculum Leader of MFL will:

  • Be committed to supporting the achievement of all our young people in the MFL curriculum, both in lessons and through extra-curricular provision, through their learning from 11-16 and beyond.

  • Design and develop an outstanding, innovative and creative MFL curriculum.

  • Develop, in all students and teachers of Spanish/MFL, versatile skills and attitudes required for lifelong learning in a rapidly changing world.

  • Ensure that teachers within the MFL team are provided with high quality training opportunities, which enable them to be highly effective practitioners.

  • Hold teachers of Spanish/MFL to account for their performance.

  • Develop positive external relationships at a local and strategic level, in partnership with The White Rose Academies Trust and others, to promote the continued development of the Academy, as a central resource for the community.

  • Lead the English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision within the academy.

Part of The White Rose Academies Trust, Leeds West Academy is accelerating on a thrilling journey, which will ultimately see the school, its staff and its students, secure an Ofsted rating of World Class.

We're securing our 2025 vision for World Class by growing our family of exceptional education professionals; dedicated specialists and passionate leaders with the shared goal of transforming future prospects for the next generation of West Yorkshire.
