In his fifth blog, Tom writes about experiences from his Business Officer Apprenticeship, as a key member of the Admin team at Leeds East Academy:
As I have almost been working in this role for 8 months I am feel confident, settled and assured that my work is of a high standard. I now know where to direct external calls and emails, how to best assist the staff and students, what tasks to prioritise and I have seen an improvement in my ability to complete the tasks I have.
"I am really grateful for the team ethos at Leeds East Academy and I feel incredibly lucky to work with the admin team."
The staff I work with are extremely kind and helpful, if I need their help I always find them willing to step in. I experienced this a few months ago when I had to compile a large amount of data. I realised it was going to take a few days to compile, so I asked for assistance from the Data Manager and by the end of the day they had everything I needed. I learned from this that the entire staff body are willing to work together to help the school run efficiently.
As I work in the main admin office, I find myself offering help to staff each day. I am often asked to support and cover lessons when needed. I am really grateful for the team ethos at Leeds East Academy and I feel incredibly lucky to work with the admin team. I know my ability to work in a team will help me in my career as I will know how important it is to work as a team and not as a group of individuals.
I am very excited to share that I have begun studying with Nelson and Colne. I now have assignments and tasks to complete each week, as well as a project to complete. It will be interesting to see how my role at Leeds East Academy compliments my learning.
