  • This key role will focus on improving the progress for students by developing, delivering, monitoring and reviewing key intervention across a range of need types for KS3 students on the SEND register.

  • You will work with individual and groups of students who are at risk of underachieving to accelerate progress in learning, behaviour, attendance or personal development.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Have responsibility for, and manage effectively, a caseload of students allocated through the Additional Needs Team (ANTS) via the SEND Leader. This will involve developing and tracking a range of students to accelerate progress in learning, behaviour, attendance or personal development, providing clear impact.

  • Deliver a range of specific interventions with a group or 1:1, as directed by the SEND Leader, focusing on both SEMH and Learning.

  • Maintain full and accurate records of interventions and complete documentation when required (e.g. risk assessments, referrals for agency support, B squared assessments, intervention reviews, provision map entry) in line with the academy agreed procedures.

  • Liaise regularly with, and report to, your line manager about your targeted and/or intervention students and key impact of your work.

  • Follow a graduated response, supporting at Wave 1 where needed, developing a hot spot timetable and planning and delivering sessions at Wave 2.

  • Gain staff and student voice when required to help shape and improve practice.

  • Support the SEND Leader with new SEND referrals for Year 7 and Year 8.

  • Create ‘Personal Support Plans’ for SEND students and update termly – these will be used to advise other staff in school on high impact strategies and resources which can be used to support individual students.

  • Create personalised SEND documentation where necessary.

  • Delivery of whole school briefing in regards to key KS3 SEND students.

  • Contribute to the statutory assessment and annual reviews of students with SEND.

  • Contribute to applications for additional funding for students with SEND.

  • Collaborate with professional colleagues to develop and maintain close working links with parent / carers and support agencies as required.

  • Create accurate and high quality reports, as required, for internal use and external meetings related to students in KS3.

  • Working with WLG and SLT members of staff to develop clear processes and data analysis to enable key groups to be identified in KS3 who are not ‘high school ready’ and fall below threshold for entry level. Delivering intervention suitable to support this need with evidence of impact.

  • Develop relationships with, and be the first port of call for, students in KS3 on the SEND register in a pastoral capacity.

  • Support the development of ‘In Partnership’ characters and values within the academy and all aspects of the role

  • Attend, lead and contribute to review meetings as appropriate.

  • Attend, lead and contribute to SEND team meetings.

  • Support the induction of SEND students new to the academy in KS3.

  • Contribute to effective transition processes for Y6/Y7 transition.

  • Contribute to wider school activities.

  • Develop and maintain high quality display areas for your area of work.

  • Work with ANTS leaders, subject leaders and inclusion staff to improve the quality and quantity of support across a range of needs within KS3 SEND.

  • To maintain effective links with parents/carers of students as required.
