Dan Whieldon

Dan has been Principal at Leeds West Academy since September 2020 after initially joining the academy as a Vice Principal in 2018 before promotion to Head of School and subsequently to Principal. Leeds West Academy has undergone a transformative period since 2019 securing a ‘Good’ judgement from Ofsted, hugely improved results and is now oversubscribed and one of the most popular secondary schools in the city.

 

Ofsted inspected Safeguarding and Behaviour in September 2022 and found safeguarding to be 'effective' and also noting the 'high expectations for behaviour' at the academy. Leeds West Academy status as a 'Good' school was reaffirmed. Dan is passionate about the community in the west of Leeds and the continual improvement journey the academy is on with an unwavering commitment to excellence and transformation through education for all of the community.

 

Dan has an MA degree in Leadership and Management in Education from Leeds Beckett University and works with Ofsted as a serving practitioner and as a Headteacher Leadership Development Partner with the Prince's Teaching Institute.
